Tanning Facility Regulation Program
The Logan County Department of Public Health (LCDPH) through a grant agreement with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) conducts regulatory inspections of all tanning establishments in Logan County under the authority of the Tanning Facility Permit Act (210 ILCS 145) and Tanning Facilities Code (77 Ill. Adm. Code 795).
Opening a Business
Anyone interested in opening a tanning facility must first contact the IDPH Division of Food, Drugs and Dairies at 217-785-2439 or by e-mail at dph.tan@illinois.gov. The IDPH will process the initial application for permitting and notify the LCDPH regarding the new business operation. Upon receipt of notification, an initial inspection of the facility will be conducted by the LCDPH within 90 days. After the initial inspection, the LCDPH will continue to conduct annual routine inspections of the tanning operation to assure compliance.
Change of Ownership
If an owner decides to sell his/her tanning facility, the IDPH Division of Food, Drugs and Dairies must be contacted at 217-785-2439 or by e-mail at dph.tan@illinois.gov to be notified of the intent to change ownership. IDPH will process the application and new permit and notify the LCDPH of the ownership change. Upon receipt of the information, the LCDPH will conduct an initial inspection for the new owner within 90 days.
